Construct books with this binding structure popular due its ability to open flat, as well as an accompanying hardcover case.

Invented by Timothy Ely, the drum leaf binding opens flat and is popular among book artists due to the ability to design books in spreads, allowing imagery to flow seamlessly across the gutter of the book. In this workshop, we will cover methods of constructing drum leaf bindings both in a fully equipped bindery and at home with little to no equipment, and you will learn how to make a simple hardcover case for the books. You will walk away with up to two drum leaf bindings, and the knowledge to use this structure for your own artist’s books in the future.
