Please join us for the Lone Star Chapter of the Guild of Book Workers annual meeting, to be held Saturday April 22, 2017 at the Austin Book Arts Center, beginning at 2pm. ABAC is housed in the Flatbed Press building, as is the gallery where our business meeting will be taking place, along with a number of other creative studios and galleries. We encourage you to arrive early to explore the spaces, and take part in an optional tour and demonstration at Flatbed. The galleries are open beginning at noon.

Here’s the schedule for the day:

2:00p-3:30p Letterpress printing, demonstrations, refreshments, and tag sale:

We’ll be printing drink coasters (so you’ll have a souvenir) with the kind help of ABAC in using their platen presses. The 2-color design for the coaster was dreamed up by our own Jesse Hunt, and you’re gonna love it!

Concurrently, there will be an open studio with paper toy makers Kyle Hawley and Veronica Ceci. Kyle Hawley, ABAC board member, has a studio located next to the gallery. She is a printer and paper toy designer.  http://smithandhawley.com/

We’ll also have an area set up for a tag sale during this time. Participants can bring in extra materials, bags of scraps, unbound textblocks, and used tools or presses they’re looking to sell or give away. Items should be labeled with the seller’s name and asking price (if there is one), then a buyer can find the seller and pay (or say thank you). We think this will be a great idea to facilitate mingling!

3:30p-4:30p annual meeting (business):

This portion of our afternoon will take place in CAMIBAart, a gallery space in the same building. We’ll do further introductions, review the health of our chapter, highlight the activities of the past year, discuss upcoming events, and begin thinking of nominations for chapter officers. I’ll be sending an agenda ahead of the meeting, and welcome thoughts from anyone, especially those of you that might not be able to attend.

4:30p-5p:

Wrap up and clear out.

After 5p:

If you like, continue socializing and join us in the neighborhood for dinner and drinks. Dutch treat, but a round of appetizers will be on us!

Cost for the meeting: FREE. We have worked to make the cost of this meeting and its related activities totally free to you, our members, thanks to the ability to do this through our chapter finances. We are also immensely grateful to the ABAC for their assistance and generosity (in both planning and hosting), including the use of their presses and space during the first half of our afternoon. Thanks also to Smith & Hawley studio for planning such an interesting demonstration for us, and to Camiba Art for working with us on the rental of their inspiring space.

Kindly RSVP by April 15 if you’ll be attending, so we can best prepare for setup. You can respond to this email, or email us directly at <lonestar@guildofbookworkers.org>
