Born 1946, Oxford, England. Served six year apprenticeship in gold tooling. Studied under Ivor Robinson for four years. Assistant to Sydney Cockerell for five and half years. Elected Fellow of Designer Bookbinders 1972. Established and ran The Eddington Bindery for three and a half years. Taught bookbinding at Camberwell College of Art, London. Started own bindery in 1976. University of Wales, Arts Fellow, Gregynog 1982–83. First visiting lecturer at Institute of Fine Binding and Book Conservation, Humanities Research Centre, University of Texas, 1987. Currently working privately in partnership with son, Stuart Brockman. Past President of both Designer Bookbinders and The Society of Bookbinders. Accredited Member of The Institute of Paper Conservation. Lectured and taught in UK, USA, Australia and Europe. Collections: British Library, Victoria & Albert Museum, University of Texas, Southern Methodist University Dallas, Lilly Library, the royal libraries in the Hauge and Copenhagen, as well as many private libraries worldwide.
