Starship Log and Pod

Materials: heat warped polyester, ink, crayon, beads and fishing line. The single sheets of the book are bound with Coptic stitching. The pod is put together with a whip stitch. The starship Log and Pod is inscribed with an unintelligible code, which hints at extra terrestrial origin. The book and pod both show signs of wear and tear, as if subjected to great heat and other external forces. 24 x 16.5 x 16.5 centimeters. Created 2004.

Peggy graduated from the University of Wyoming with a double degree in Art and Education. Since then, she has continued her studies in painting, printing and the book arts. She has taught book art workshops in Oregon, Colorado, Wyoming and Iowa, and has studied with leading book artists across the nation. Locally, Peggy is a busy artist. In addition to her own work, she finds time to teach at the Des Moines Art Center. She also teaches in the public schools as a visiting artist, working with K-12 students. Other opportunities have allowed her to teach at the University of Northern Illinois, Simpson College, and Drake University. Peggy also speaks to local groups about her work and the book arts, and conducts seminars for graphic design and art directors organizations. Peggy was instrumental in the founding of The Prairie Book Collaborative, a group dedicated to the book in all its forms. The group’s first project, One, was unveiled last year, and Two debuted April 1, 2006. Peggy’s work is in public and private collections nationally.
