Reliquiæ

Reliquiæ is an abecedarium of martyred female saints, illustrated with Van Dyke brown photographs of extinct animals (photographed from the collections of the Field Museum). Reliquiae was letterpress printed on handmade flax and hemp paper. The Van Dyke brown photographs were printed on handcoated Japanese Gampi tissue. The book is bound in a modified Romanesque style, sewn on cords and laced onto quarter-sawn oak boards, with a reliquary inset into the cover. Edition of five. 10 x 15 x 1.5 centimeters. Created 2005.


Karen Jutzi has an MFA in Interdisciplinary Book & Paper Arts from Columbia College Chicago. She currently works as a conservation technician at Northwestern University Library.
