Barbara Lazarus Metz, artist/educator/curator, received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1983 she co-founded and then directed Artists Book Works, the first Chicago facility to advance the art of the handmade book, until it merged with Paper Press and became the Columbia College Chicago Center for Book and Paper Arts. She was Summer Director, chaired the exhibition committee and taught there, as well as at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Loyola University, and at various colleges, art centers, schools, and conferences throughout the country. Now retired, she teaches book arts to teachers and students from elementary through graduate school, and adults at the Center and in the Chicago area.
