Bound in full parchment over boards; edges rough gilt on fore edge and tail, solid gilt on head; multicolored handsewn silk endband; design of binding taken from segments of the art in the book that have been enlarged, spliced together, and airbrushed onto the back side of the parchment; tooling completed in gold with custom made tools; areas of parchment surface selectively blasted with glass beads to reduce sheen and mimic aspects of the underpainted designs. 31 x 23.5 x 3 centimeters. Peter Geraty has been binding since 1975, when he worked at Unicorn Press in Greensboro, NC as a binder, typesetter, and printer. In 1977 he moved to Boston and worked in various binderies, including the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard University, and at Harcourt Bindery. In 1984 he opened his own studio and currently runs Praxis Bindery in Easthampton, MA where he creates fine bindings, restores and conserves books, and binds privately printed editions.
