Born in 1916, and after serving as a WAVE during WWII, Fran studied under the GI Bill with Paul Standard at Cooper Union in New York City. In the 1960s she joined GBW and began studying bookbinding with Laura Young. She taught calligraphy and bookbinding at the Craft League in New York. From 1990–1997 Fran was the calligraphy correspondent for the Guild newsletter. She was made an honorary member of the Guild in 1997.
