TIMOTHY C. ELY recently received an NEA regional grant from the Western States Arts Federation. The grant will be used for research and equipment. His 1986 book Binding the Book: The Flight into Egypt has been published by Chronicle Books of San Francisco, titled as The Flight into Egypt, and will be released in November. It includes an introduction by Terence McKenna and an interview with the author by Steve Clay. A book signing and launch party will be held at Granary Books in New York in November.

The 1994 Book Club of California Keepsake, mentioned among the Publications in the August issue of this Newsletter, entitled Hand Bookbinding in California: A Keepsake, includes a number of Guild members who are involved in the editing and writing of the Keepsake, or are subjects of it. STELLA PATRI, binder and Honorary Guild member, is profiled. JOANNE SONNICHSEN is a co-editor with Florian Shasky, and writers include TOM CONROY and ELEANORE RAMSEY. Also important in the story of California bookbinding are present and former members of the Guild: GALE HERRICK, BARBARA HILLER, SHEILA CASEY, JOANN MILLER, BETTY LOU CHAIKA, DONALD GLAISTER, CONSTANCE HUNTER, ANNE and THEODORE KAHLE, HAROLD and LEAH WOLLENBERG. A copy of the Keepsake is being donated to the Guild Library by Margaret Johnson.

Participants in the Sun Valley Center for the Arts and Humanities multi-disciplinary event focusing on hand made books, "The Uncommon Book: Structure, Space & Language", will include members TIM ELY, SANDRA TILCOCK, DON GUYOT and SUSAN SHARE. The events, workshops, lectures, field trips, performances, receptions, classes,run from October 20 through November 5. The exhibition accompanying it runs through December 9.
