MARBLING NEWS

by Iris Nevins

There is a possibility that a Marblers' Gathering may be held in Istanbul, Turkey this Fall, provided there is enough interest. If you are interested in more information regarding this, you may write to Hikmet Barutcugil at: Ishakpasa Caddisi #8, 34400 Sultanhamet, Istanbul, Turkey.

There is a new form of carrageenan size being offered by some suppliers. It is quite a bit less expensive than the kind most people have purchased in the past, but it is practically useless for marbling. Be warned if you are offered a powdered size that is considerably cheaper, to buy only a small amount initially to try out, as it may not work.

A show called Floating Magic Color - Six Influential Marblers & Their Craft will be open through April 12 at the Columbia College Chicago Center for Book and Paper Arts, 218 S. Wabash, 7th Floor, Chicago IL 60604; 312/431-8612. Featured marblers are: Mustafa Duzgunman, Milena Hughes, Don Guyot, Norma Rubovits, Peggy Skycraft, and Christopher Weimann.
