American Graphic Arts, Inc., 150 Broadway, P.O. Box 240, Elizabeth NJ 07206, ph: 908/351-6906, fax: 908-351-7156, offer a large variety of machinery, new and reconditioned, for bookbinding (board shears, corner cutters, & commercial bindery machines), foil stamping (Kensol, Kwikprint, etc.), drills/punches, paper cutters, proof presses, book presses and job backers.

Lo Gatto Book Binding, Inc., 390 Paterson Ave., East Rutherford NJ 07073, ph: 201-438-4344; fax: 201-438-1775, offers new and used finishing tools, presses and sewing frames.

Abbey Newsletter's Supplies column in November mentioned the Letraset empty fillable felt-tip markers. This seems to be a possible substitute for the graphic pen used by Elaine Schlefer to make precise wet lines for tearing strips of repair tissue. Elaine demonstrated its use in tearing strips for binding single sheets using folded Japanese tissue at the Tuscaloosa Standards Seminar. If you have trouble finding the graphic pen (as your editor did in San Francisco), this may be the solution. They sell as the 'Tria' for $2.95 each, come in three widths. Contact: David Poynton, Letraset USA 40 Eisenhower Dr., Paramus NJ 07652, 210/845-6100, or check your local art materials store.
