Guild News: Scholarships

Thanks to garage sales, auctions and some careful budgeting, the Guild of Book Workers will offer three scholarships to the 1997 Standards of Excellence in Hand Bookbinding Seminar in Ann Arbor, Michigan, October 24-25. These scholarships consist of a waiver of registration fees and four nights lodging at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Ann Arbor. Recipients are responsible for their transportation to and from the Seminar, and must make their own reservations at the hotel.

The Scholarship Committee consists of all the Chapter Heads, who review all applications (with applicants names concealed) and make three recommendations. The three with the greatest number of recommendations are chosen. An applicant must have been a member of the Guild for two years and must present two letters of reference from either clients or instructors and write a brief statement as to why he or she wishes to attend this year's Seminar. Application forms will appear in the June issue of this Newsletter, along with the Standards Seminar registration forms.

Everyone in the Guild is eligible. Previously when the scholarship has been offered, there were few applicants. This is your chance to come to the best event The Guild of Book Workers holds.

The deadline for application is July 31, 1997. Start gathering those references ... NOW!
