University of Alabama, Bookbinding Assistant Professor
The MFA in the Book Arts Program at The School of Library & Information Studies in the College of Communication will begin a search for a tenure-track faculty position in bookbinding at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position will be available beginning with the Fall semester, 1998. An official announcement for the position will appear in the October issue of this newsletter and members of the search committee will be present at the Guild's annual meeting in Ann Arbor to discuss the position with prospective candidates. Appointments may be set up in advance of the meeting. Additional opportunities will be available for discussion of the position for those not attending the annual meeting. The bookbinding position involves full-time teaching of beginning and advanced levels of bookbinding, as well as decorated papers, protective containers, etc.; and a vigorous creative activity program.

Cranberry Mills Handmade Paper, (RR #1, Seeleys Bay, ON, K0H 2N0, Canada, 613-387-1021) is taking applications for a maximum of two persons per session to apprentice for a one or two week session during August, September and October 1997, in the fundamentals of repulping, beating and "hands-on" Western Style hand papermaking, including floral inclusions. Women's Studio Workshop is looking for two interns for its spring session (January through May). Interns assist in the day to day running of the organization and work alongside the artist staff learning about print media, papermaking, book arts and arts administration. Interns are allowed full access to the available studios after hours. Off-site housing and a small monthly stipend is provided. WSW is especially interested in offering internships to young women art students and recent college graduates.
