Claire Owen's work was shown during October at the Nexus Foundation in Philadelphia in a show entitled "through a window in the forest wall".
Monique Lallier received an award recently for her binding of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, Cité Corsaire She was among the six winners of the Prix de l'Union Europeenne given in France by the "Cercle de reliure d'Art de Ciboure" in September. Four other GBW members were among the 440 entrants in the competition: Joanne Sonnichsen, Don Etherington, Ruth Stein and Brenda Parsons. Joanne and Ruth Stein attended the Biennial. Monique's binding was a pop-up structure, bound in a light brown goat skin, the front panel of which opens to reveal a boat constructed of leather and Japanese paper sailing on the sea.
Don Etherington is the 1997 winner of the Helen Warren DeGolyer Triennial Exhibition & Award for American Bookbinding. His First Prize award included a $5,000 commission for the binding of the Bridwell Library's prize book, the 1928 Book of Common Prayer.
