Artwork

An original lithograph, ca. 1860, 15«" x 11 ", showing the interior of a handbindery with different stages of work done, is in preparation to be printed by hand from the original stone, by the Custom Bindery in Los Angeles. For fellow Guild members these are being offered by Charles Mohr at production cost. Contact The Custom Bindery, 1650 South Sawtelle Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90025; (310) 473-5874.

Journals

Morocco Bound, the journal of Craft Bookbinders in New South Wales, Australia, is now being received by the Guild of Book Workers Library. The Guild of Craft Bookbinders has kindly sent us all back issues beginning with Vol. 10, No. 1, March 1989. Due to a mix-up in addresses, neither Guild had been receiving the publications of the other organization.

Morocco Bound is an interesting quarterly publication, containing not only news of the activities going on in Australia, but each issue features how-to articles, handy hints, workshop write-ups, articles on the history of bookbinding and related topics, and more. It, and other publications, are available by mail from the Librarian: Pamela Spitzmueller, Guild of Book Workers Library, Conservation Dept., University of Iowa Library, Iowa City, IA 52242.

Videotapes

The University of Iowa Center for the Book is pleased to announce "Papermaking", a new series of five video tapes. Written by Director of Center Paper Facilities, Tim Barrett, the series differs from most available audio-visuals on the subject in its distinct "how-to" emphasis. The tapes cover all key steps in both Western- and Japanese-type papermaking. Slow motion and other video effects highlight crucial movements during sheetforming with a degree of clarity impossible in book format. The series is intended as a resource for papermakers, artists, teachers, conservators, or anyone with an interest in hand papermaking. Prices are $60 per tape or $250 for the five-tape set. A supplier list and a short bibliography are included with each tape. Foreign language versions are planned at additional cost. For information, or to order, contact: UICB Papermaking Video Tapes, 364 English Philosophy Bldg, University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA 52242; or call Tim Barrett at (319) 335-4410.
