Frances Chickering, Cloud Crystals: A Snowflake Album
This half-fanciful, half-scientific volume makes a truly unique gift book. Before photography replaced her methods in the later nineteenth century, Frances Chickering's method of capturing snow crystals on dark fur or cloth, magnifying them, and immediately cutting out their figures from memory, was the accepted way to depict them. On the cover and in internal plates, the artist has incorporated Chickering's cutout methods to enhance the impact of the volume. The unique result of the formation of each snowflake is preserved and celebrated.
Full suede lambskin with recessed panels & onlaid mother of pearl. 10 x 7.75 x 1 inches. 25.4 x 19.7 x 2.5 centimeters. Created 2018.
