Ladislav Hanka, Remembering Jan Sobota
In Remembering Jan Sobota, Ladislav Hanka describes Sobota's path as a bookbinder and artist, weaving in many of the formative experiences that shaped his work and life. Throughout, Hanka shares from their three decades of collaborations in which Sobota masterfully interpreted Hanka's etchings. Common to many of these was imagery of the lifecycle of the fish and nature, with fishing a pastime that further connected the two and resulted in numerous binding projects. The combination of materials in this binding, including distressed wood veneer and salmon, suggest the imagery and ambiance associated with fishing trips.
