Call for Applications

The University of Iowa Libraries is offering two advanced conservation workshops that will be supported by the Andrew W Mellon Foundation. The first workshop "Atlas Structures" will run Feb 27 - Mar 2, the application deadline Jan 31, 1996. The second workshop "Historical Book Models" will run Jun 25 - 29, the application deadline Apr 30. Both workshops will be taught by Pamela Spitzmueller. Stipend $500. "Marks of the Makers" a summer book arts study tour through Germany, Holland & Switzerland offered by the University of Alabama. The program will be based at the Fachhochschule Augsburg. Call for Entries

The Oregon Book Arts Guild announces the fourth Oregon Book Biennial, May 10 - Jun 28, 1996, a juried show of handmade books. The theme is "Endangered", as in the spotted owl, timber workers, family values, individual freedoms and so on. Submission deadline Mar 18, 1996. Dec 6 - Feb 17, 1996: New York, NY: "Poets in a War: British Writers on the Battle Fronts and the Home Fronts of the Second World War," an exhibition presented by the Grolier Club will include manuscripts, first editions, drawings and portraits of 130 British poets of the 1940's. The collection of bindings commissioned on a single book of letterpress-printed drawings by Dutch artist Robert Brandhof of Paris.
