Nancy Leavitt's calligraphic manuscript book Sunlight was on display in the "Belle Lettere" Exhibition at Comune di Cittadella, Padova, Italy during February and March. Nancy Leavitt and Barbara Cash, along with twelve other Maine artists have books in "Perspectives: The Art of the Book" until June 30 at the Portland Museum of Art in Portland, Maine.
An exhibition of handmade books and broadsides by Jean Buescher, entitled A Celebration of the Book, was on view at the Ann Arbor Main Public Library during National Book Month in April. In conjunction with the exhibition, Jean gave nine workshop/ demonstrations on Parts of a Book/Tools of the Trade at the library.
On Tuesday evening, May 20th, at the Scarab Club in Detroit, Jean gave a slide lecture on Women Printers and the Private Press, sponsored by the Book Club of Detroit.
Carol Barton, Julie Chen, William Drendel, Robbin Silverberg, and Bonnie Stahlecker are each exhibiting 10 to 15 books in the MCBA show Bound to Be now at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts until September 6. These are books inspired by the innovative work of Hedi Kyle. Each of these artists has pushed beyond Hedi and integrated form with content, in their own voice.
In April Keith Smith and Scott McCarney visited Australia under the auspices of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. They gave a weekend workshop in Non-Adhesive Binding and visited various bookbinding Guilds in Australia.
Miriam Schaer's work, Ancient Armor: Bookworks & Wearable Texts was shown during the month of May in the Elihu Burritt Library of Central Connecticut State University in New Britain.
