Delaware Valley Chapter
The Delaware Valley Chapter's search for a new Chairman or co-Chairmen - has been unable to find anyone willing tovolunteer their time to relieve Claire Owen, who has been Chapter Chair for five years. If noone has come forward to take over the reins by June, the end of the fiscal year, the chapter will be dissolved.
Further information may be had by calling Claire at 215 849-7863.
Annual Report for the Southeast Chapter
The Southeast Chapter of the Guild had a fairly quiet year, with the annual general meeting being held in February at the University of Alabama. The main order of business was election of a slate of officers and determination of the purpose and direction of the chapter.
Paula Marie Gourley continues as chapter Chair, with new co-Chair Sharon Long sharing the duties and responsibilities with her. Terry Taylor and Val Roberts in charge of production of the True Grits & other Sorts newsletter.
Discussion by the membership led to the decision to have education in the arts of the book as the focus for the chapter. A series of workshops and lectures is in the planning process.
The annual gathering closed with the opening reception for an exhibition of " The Usual Suspects: Four Alabama Book Artists". This small show was an opportunity to showcase the works of members Mary Ann Sampson, Terry Taylor, Armor Keller and Paula Marie Gourley. The exhibit opened in the Gorgas Library on the UA campus, then traveled to the Kentuck Craft Center in Northport, Alabama and then to the Buchgalerie Mergemeier in Dusseldorf, Germany. Renate Mergemeier visited Alabama in the early spring and was hosted by several Guild members during her travels.
Two issues of the newsletter, True Grits & other Sorts, were produced during the year. We continue having the problem of scanty news from outlying members!
In October, the chapter had an opportunity to participate in the Kentuck Craft Festival, an annual event held in Northport, Alabama. The tables allowed varied demonstrations of bookbinding, paper decoration techniques, and information sharing with an interested public. Sharon Long organized most of the activities and was assisted by John Marc Green, Mary Hall Stevens, Terry Taylor and Val Roberts from the membership.
Respectfully submitted, Paula Marie Gourley
