Handmade Paper in Nepal, Tradition and Change, a new limited edition portfolio, being published by Hand Papermaking. The specimens for this edition have come from a single source, papermaker and paper historian Dorothy Field. Between 1984 and 1996, she traveled to Nepal four times. She sought out those who have preserved Nepalese papermaking and she visited new mills, meeting with papermakers, discerning their methods, and collecting their papers. Samples she assembled, - block-printed and colored sheets, and many made using lokta fiber - make up the specimens in the portfolio.
The third in their series (decorated handmade papers and letterpress printing on handmade papers ), this edition echoes the look and format of its predecessors. Limited to 150 copies, housed in a cloth-covered, drop-spine box - designed by Steve Miller and constructed by BookLab, Inc. - with a booklet containing an essay, descriptions of the papers, and resource information, with separate folders for the specimen.
