"On the bat's wing I do fly." In The Tempest, Shakespeare's Ariel appears and disappears at Prospero's bidding but longs for freedom. Threads, spun and stitched, on paper and eggshell collage used as symbolic illustration with handwritten text. Black and red leather binding with black thread design.

GLORIA HELFGOTT is a book artist, painter, and printmaker with a fine arts degree from Cooper Union. Recent solo exhibitions: University of Wyoming, Laramie; UCLA Dickson Arts Center; and Harper Collins Exhibition Space, NYC. She is founder of the Los Angeles Book Arts Center, and she curated the artists' book exhibitions, "SOCALied Books" and "Beyond the Page and Metafiction."
