Taylor Cox
Snohomish, Washington

Hailing from the rainy Pacific Northwest, Taylor Cox is a graphic designer, letterpress printer, bookbinder, and proprietor of Coxswain Press. "I am inspired by the transformative nature of design; the ebb and flow of new and old, and their constant interaction. The tactile nature of letterpress printings and book arts allows me to merge my passion for graphic design with my need to work with my hands. Ink, glue, and type's messy, oily, and chaotic tendencies, transformed into the clean and the new, inspires me to work."

This Is Pretty Much the Story of Our Family

In 1990, in an attempt to retain her family's story, Doris Eitelgeorge Cox (1921-2001) penned a thirty page document detailing her family's story as far back as she could remember. Those words, printed using multiple photolithograph plates at Pacific Lutheran University, appear in the work as the back layer of the spreads. The top layer of handset metal and wood type was letterpress printed at Springtide Press. The merging of my grandmother's journal with current scientific data chronicles the physical and emotional effects of memory loss.
