Santa Fe, New Mexico

Sialia Rieke was born in a cabin in the woods while aspen blazed out their autumnal golden splendor. Raised by wolves and/or artists she has lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico for most of her life. After graduating from Santa Fe High she attended Sarah Lawrence College in New York and Florence, Italy where she studied creative writing and illustration. She is currently working on a degree in Design Binding from the American Academy of Bookbinding. She writes, illustrates, letterpress prints, and paints in egg tempera as well as binding in the traditional French manner.

The Sonnets of William Shakespeare, Peter Pauper Press, 1940

The text is sewn onto frayed hemp cords, which are laced into the boards. The head is gilt and the headbands are hand-sewn with silk thread. The full leather covering, doublures, and flyleaves are of black buffalo leather. The cover features two inlaid panels of incised and dyed calf, a technique known as cuircisele. The box features black buffalo leather, suede, and a hand-tooled title in gold.
