[American Academy of Bookbinding], Imagine a Beautiful Book

The first half of Imagine a Beautiful Book chronicles the history of the first twenty years at the American Academy of Bookbinding. The second half provides an in-depth look at the fine binding techniques taught by Monique Lallier and Don Glaister, techniques that I've had the great pleasure of studying. I chose to bind this book because it represents the formation of AAB, and on a personal level, my own formation as a bookbinder. The all-white design is an homage to my teachers, to the school, and to the phenomenal natural beauty of Telluride.

Alum-tawed goatskin, handsewn silk endbands, eggshell, Indian silk endpapers. 12 x 7.5 x .75 inches. 30.5 x 19 x 2 centimeters. Created 2018.

KATY BAUM has been pursuing her love of bookbinding since 2001. She currently resides in Telluride, Colorado, and works as the managing director of the American Academy of Bookbinding.
