Marta McDowell, Beatrix Potter's Gardening Life

I rebound Beatrix Potter's Gardening Life. In it the reader is brought on a journey through Potter's upbringing, her time spent in nature, and her desire to perfect her study of it through illustration. Her formation as an author, artist, and conservationist was my inspiration. I wanted my binding to be in collaboration with Potter and used her painted water lilies to guide my design. The flowers are made with full thickness leather with hand painted edges, onlays of white petals, and Melinex laminated images. I used her drawn lines on the lily pads as my tooling pattern.

DEBORAH THOMPSON's bookbinding journey started as a vendor at the Portland Saturday Market. She moved on to selling wholesale to stores like Papyrus and then to working with photographers. In 2017, she started selling a Baby Memory Book that she designed. She is currently a student at the American Academy of Bookbinding.
