Sialia Rieke, A Fable

A Fable is an artist's book by Sialia Rieke, who recounts a story of an angel coming to earth and falling in love with a human. The bat is my interpretation of the angel flying to the woman on a cloudy day, forming the heartbreaking story that is soon to come.

Tan goatskin with laced-in boards and Pergamena vellum set into the cover with gilt ornament corners. Sewn in the style of montage sur onglets with hand sewn silk endbands. Brown pastedowns and flyleaves with leather hinges. 11.5 x 8.25 x .75 inches. 29 x 21.2 x 2 centimeters. Created 2018.

GABBY COOKSEY lives and works in Tacoma, WA, as a bookbinder and an artist. In 2014, she received a diploma in bookbinding from the North Bennet Street School in Boston, Massachusetts. She currently works for Don Glaister, Suzanne Moore, and Jessica Spring (Springtide Press) while running her own studio, BoundbyCooksey.
