Moon & Water: A Dream of Ancient Chinese Poets

Moon & Water is a series of letterpress printed poems by ancient Chinese poets, sandwiched between two poems by contemporary authors. The intense visual images formed by the poetry found their way into the pen and ink drawings that illustrate several of the poems. A separate colophon, a list of translators, and an additional cross-spread drawing in the form of a stitched pamphlet, are found in a pocket at the end of the book.

Hand and mould-made paper. 8.375 x 4.875 x .375 inches. 21.2 x 12.4 x 1 centimeters. Created 2016.

ROBERT WALP began his book and printmaking career at Vermont College in the spring of 2000. After designing and printing books for several years, he went on to study book arts at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree. Today he prints, makes paper, and hand-binds books at his studio in Chestertown, New York. Robert's work can be found in numerous institutional and private collections including the Library of Congress, Smithsonian Institution Library, British Library and New York Public Library, among others.
