Monique Lallier

Lallier was born in Montreal and studied bookbinding with Simone B. Roy in Montreal, gold tooling with Roger Arnoult in Paris, traditional binding with Edwin Heim in Ascona, Switzerland, and different techniques and box making with Hugo Peller in Solothurn, Switzerland. Her bindings are part of many private collections as well as institutions in Canada, United States, Europe, and Japan. She belongs to many bookbinding organizations: ARA Canada, AQRAL (Quebec), Guild of Book Workers, Designer Bookbinders (UK), The Society of Bookbinders (UK), The Grolier Club (New York). She is the recipient of many prizes. She practices her craft in her studio in Summerfield, North Carolina.

Leather binding has been rounded, but not backed. The boards are shaped to follow the natural curve of the spine. A horizon line has been cut out on the front and back boards with a glass bead holding the two parts. Title tooled on the spine; hand-painted paste paper by Kris Studio Calgary, Canada.
