Reflections into Black, 2010

Night blurs our linear construct of the horizon. I use the revolving nature of the dos-a-dos format to explore the fluid boundaries of that space. Reflections into Black reflects the interaction between my conscious and subconscious imaginations. I painted layered pages torn from secondhand novels with black and metallic acrylics, and then marked into the wet paint with a palette knife. For this book, the random markings suggested the images. The dry pages were cut and peeled back to the white paper of the original books to create the figures. What you see reflects your own imagination.

Dimensions: 9 x 6 x .5 inches; 23 x 15 x 1.5 centimeters

Mixed media dos-a-dos book; altered acid-free trade book, over-painted with acrylics; oil pastels; slipcase with rubber stamp type; archival spray fixative; Renaissance Wax finish.
