Claire Owen
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

After earning a BFA in illustration, and an MFA in printmaking from Rochester Institute of Technology, Owen moved to Philadelphia and established her own imprint, Turtle Island Press for the production of limited edition artist books. Her bookwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including exhibits at the Women Museum in Washington DC, the Canadian Book Guild's traveling biennial, the Center for Book Arts in NYC, and the Yale University Design Arts Center. Turtle Island Press work has been purchased for inclusion in numerous library and museum collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, UK, Metropolitan Museum, NYC, Yale University Library, Harvard University Library, Princeton University, and the Library of Congress. Owen has been invited to lecture in the book arts locally and nationally, including at Scripps College, Delaware University, and the University of Arts in Philadelphia. Owen has curated two book arts exhibits for Nexus Foundation for Today's Art, where she also served as President of the Board from 1997-2001. She was awarded an Artist Fellowship from the Independence Foundation in 2002, as well as a visiting artist grant from the British American Arts Council in 1992. In August of 2006 she became a National Member of A.I.R. Gallery in NYC. She currently teaches at Tyler School of Art and Drexel University.
