Robert Walp

Robert Walp began his bookmaking career in the Spring of 2000 at Vermont College in Montpelier, Vermont. He has participated in numerous book arts workshops since then and in 2006 earned an MFA in the Book Arts from The University of Alabama, where he received the Raymond F. McClain Book Arts Award. His work can be found in many collections including The University of Vermont Bailey Library, Dartmouth College Rauner Library, Brown University Rockefeller Library in Providence, Rhode Island, The Library of Congress, The New York Public Library, and The Shelburne Museum in Shelburne, Vermont. Robert works from his studio in the Adirondacks under the imprint of Chester Creek Press and has taught workshops in New York at The Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts in Blue Mountain Lake, Bluseed Studio in Saranac Lake, the Town of Chester Public Library, and the Lake George Arts Project. He has also taught at Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina and at The Great River Arts Institute in Bellow Falls, Vermont. He is a member of The Guild of Bookworkers and The Fine Press Book Association, and is curator of the Book Arts Collection at the Town of Chester Public Library.

Peak to Peak, 2011

Peak to Peak explores the life of Verplanck Colvin and his work as surveyor of the Adirondack Mountains during the late 1800s in a presentation of text, maps, drawings, photographs & prints. The book is printed letterpress on handmade paper incorporating native Adirondack plants. The binding is quarter leather with worn green bookcloth reminiscent of a field journal such as Colvin might have used. The book, photos, and maps are enclosed in a cloth and leather hinged lid box with leather and deer bone closures.
