Priscilla Spitler studied printmaking (BFA 1975) at the California College of Arts & Crafts and bookbinding at the London College of Printing (1980-81) with Alfred Brazier and John Mitchell. She attended a master class in fine binding taught by James Brockman in 1987 at the Harry Ranson Center, UT Austin. Specializing in edition binding, Priscilla worked 8 years at BookLab, Inc., in Austin until establishing her own Hands On Bookbinding studio. She lives in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico.

Horizon, Where Earth Meets Sky, 2012

A unique artist book in a fine binding about arrivals, departures, and a sense of place. Bound with laced-on boards in navy and green Hewit's Pentland goatskin, with surface decor created with goat and calf leather onlay, gold and colored foil tooling, and acrylic paint. Stonehenge text pages are painted in acrylic with pastel drawing by the binder, and contain poetry and collage by the late book artist Paula Hocks. Printed on an HP 1500 inkjet printer from the author's original typed masters and Xerox collage imagery. Gold tooled title on front board. Sewn silk endbands, leather joints and paste paper endpapers executed by the binder.
