C.P. Snow, The Physicists, 1981

French-style full leather binding in black goatskin. Incised acrylic-colored recesses with laser printed inlays and plastic windows. Foil-stamped title inlay. Silk-sewn endbands. Graphite top edge. Black doublures with foil stamping. Ink-jet printed flyleaves. Cover images depict the timed sequence of the first man-made nuclear explosion, the Trinity test. This book examines the diverse group of physicists brought together by the race to realize the power within the atom. Flyleaves reproduce Einstein's letters to President Roosevelt—the first reflecting the concerns about the need to develop nuclear technology before Nazi Germany and the latter expressing caution about using this technology as a weapon. 10 x 7 x 1 inches, 25.5 x 18 x 2.5 centimeters. Created 2009.

Lesa is the conservator of the special collections at the Chicago Public Library. She taught chemistry for ten years before beginning her career in conservation at the Northwestern University Library. She has studied fine binding with Scott Kellar, Tini Miura, and Monique Lallier.
