A relief-printed book using pressure printing, letterpress, and ink-jet. The text is a set of fifty short, sometimes very short, stories of events from my
growing up. It started as a remembrance of my mother and expanded out to include my family, my neighborhood, my elementary school, and my nervous stomach.
The pressure-printed images included relate to certain of the stories. Bound using the “Secret Belgian” binding, a 16th-century binding with an interesting
sewing pattern at the spine. Sixty pages. Edition of thirty-five, numbers 1-10 are enclosed in a silk covered clamshell box lined with marbled paper made by
Stephen Pittelkow. 11 x 6 x 0.75 inches, 28 x 15 x 2 centimeters. Created 2008.
Emily Martin received an MFA in painting from the University of Iowa and then began making books. She started the Naughty Dog Press in 1995 or so, producing
limited-edition books often of a sculptural nature. Martin teaches classes for the University of Iowa Center for the Book and workshops around the USA. Her
books are in collections such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and others. Website at
