Evidence of Progress
The book uses primitive marks to indicate the passage of time. Original handmade paper using rehydrated cotton rag from my first paper, and pulp painted
with day lily pulp. Traditional case binding with chemise and slipcase, using handmade paper, hand-dyed linen thread, and hand-dyed Tyvek. It is a single
signature with pamphlet stitch. Doublure inlays of handmade, pulp painted paper. The purpose of the book is twofold. One is the visual evidence of the primitive
marks, which have long been used to indicate the passage of time. The second is to show the progress of my first paper reworked into new, pulp-painted sheets
twenty-nine years later. 8 x 5 x 0.25 inches, 20.5 x 12.5 x 0.5 centimeters. Created 2009.
Academically trained in fine art, Pamela received a BFA in printmaking from Kent State University and did postgraduate studies in graphic design at the
Cleveland Institute of Art. Pamela works primarily in paper and book arts and continues to exhibit her one-of-a-kind books at various art centers and museums,
nationally and internationally. Many of her artists’ books have been acquired by different local, national, and international libraries and museums for their
permanent collections. She has been the recipient of several professional development grants from the Arizona Commission on the Arts and was the recipient of a
fellowship from the Women's Studio Workshop in New York. She studied with Joe D'Ambrosio, Hedi Kyle, Tom Conroy, Chela Metzger, Pam Barrios, Dolph Smith,
